FMBN & FGSHLB FORGE FRESH PATH TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has so far disbursed N2.6 Billion in Home Renovation Loans to 3,051 Federal Civil servants through Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board (FGSHLB).
The Managing Director/Chief Executive, FMBN, Shehu Usman Osidi, FCIB, FICA, FCNA, disclosed this on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 while receiving a delegation from the FGSHLB led by its Executive Secretary, Hajiya Salamatu Ladi Ahmed, at the Bank’s Head Office in Abuja.
The meeting which also had in attendance FMBN's Executive Directors of Loans & Mortgage Services, Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdu and Finance & Corporate Services, Mr. Ibidapo Odojukan, focused on strengthening collaboration to address housing challenges faced by Public servants.
Osidi emphasized the need for both Organisations to work closely in developing innovative and inclusive products that respond directly to the realities of Civil servants, many of whom are unable to access mortgages due to high commercial Bank rates and income constraints.
He underscored the Bank’s readiness to deepen the partnership, stating, “We are desirous of working out unique Housing solutions with Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board for the benefit of our teeming Federal Civil servants,” adding that FMBN remains focused on reducing Housing costs and expanding affordability for contributors under the National Housing Fund (NHF) Scheme.
The Chief Executive highlighted the gains already recorded through collaboration with the FGSHLB, where 3,051 Civil servants who accessed Home Renovation Loans improved their living conditions. He noted that the success of the initiative provides a strong foundation for developing more structured mortgage products tailored to Public Sector Workers.
The MD/CE further reiterated that FMBN remains “the home of housing solutions for Civil servants”, expressing confidence that the renewed partnership would deliver more tangible relief to Nigerian Workers.
On her part, the Executive Secretary commended FMBN’s consistent support for FGSHLB's initiatives and called for stronger synergy in designing housing products that can make homeownership more accessible to Civil servants.
She noted that low income levels and high interest rates from commercial lenders continue to pose major barriers, making affordable alternatives imperative.
Both institutions agreed to set up a joint Technical Working Group to develop practical frameworks and products that would make access to affordable Housing more seamless.
